Adore: Verre églomisé (and Feng Shui police)

I never look twice at those over-the-top baroque mirrors (I love France, but I have to draw the line somewhere and baroque is it), but I do like the way the mirror part gets all streaky and weird (I'm sure there is a technical term besides 'weird', someone set me straight if you know). So I thought verre églomisé was another word for baroque all this time - just try typing "verre églomisé" in Google and you will know what I mean about the baroque part. Yikes.

Well, it turns out verre églomisé only means goldleaf or silverleaf applied to the back of the glass, not "Versaille hall of mirrors". I learned a lot from this very beautiful (if massive) mirror by Ochre, which doesn't feel baroque at all to me but sure has some neat texture going on:

It has given me all kinds of ideas. Our tiny house has a few dark corners where some interesting textured reflection would help, and now I think I've found a DIY option, hooray!

I feel like I should say the photo that started my interest in the streaked weirdness of old mirrors was this one, at the lovely Petunia (found via the equally lovely So Sylvie). And the second was the mirror in this beautiful still life Corey at Tongue in Cheek created to welcome her by her front door.

The mirrors that these blogging women found have slowly been working on me. Baroque will never be my thing, but I think I'm agreeing with them now - there is something magic in the interesting texture, even if Feng Shui people say only to use really crystal-clear mirrors. What if I don't use it as a mirror? What if it is art and I made it myself? Can I have a cool streaky mirror then?
